Your official guide to the 17th annual Rick Majerus Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Shootout, scheduled for December 28-29-30 at Concordia University in Mequon:

Five Things To Watch …

1. De Pere – The Redbirds are the top-ranked team in Division 1 and with good reason. Coach Brian Winchester's squad has opened the season with six straight victories, including a 70-42 victory over Kimberly and a 91-54 conquest of Bay Port. De Pere is led by senior guard John Kinziger (6-0), a four-year varsity performer and Illinois State recruit. Kinziger is averaging 21.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.4 assists. Junior forward Will Hornseth (6-8) owns NCAA Division I scholarship offers from Green Bay, Illinois State, St. Thomas and Toledo, and contributes 17.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per outing. Kinziger's younger brother, sophomore Zach Kinziger (6-2), is another quality player for the Redbirds, who boast plenty of size, depth, experience and talent. De Pere will take on a Brookfield East squad that has lost some close games with talented senior guard Matt Schmainda sidelined with an injury.

2. Wisconsin Lutheran – In a perfect world Wisconsin Lutheran would play De Pere in the WBY Shootout. But the pairings were finalized months ago so the Vikings, the state's top-ranked WIAA Division 2 team, instead will battle very good squads from Onalaska and Oshkosh North. Some believe Wisconsin Lutheran is the state's best team, regardless of division. Coach Ryan Walz's squad is led by seniors Jamiir Allen (6-1), Landon Key (6-4) and Prentice Young (6-4), along with exceptionally talented junior Kon Knueppel (6-6). Allen, Key and Young all have several years of varsity experience and each figures to play at the next level. Knueppel leads the undefeated Vikings in scoring (20.7 ppg) and rebounding (9.8 rpg), and is considered the prize recruit in the state's class of 2024. He owns offers from a large number of high-major programs, including Iowa, Marquette, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Virginia and Wisconsin, among others. Wisconsin Lutheran brings a 6-0 record into the WBY Shootout with a marquee 87-48 win over defending Division 1 state champion Neenah.

3. 17 ranked teams in WisSports.net Coaches Poll – Two top-ranked teams and 15 ranked programs overall are scheduled to participate in the 34-team WBY Shootout. At the Division 1 level, top-ranked De Pere, sixth-ranked Neenah, seventh-ranked Brookfield Central, eighth-ranked Milwaukee Hamilton, ninth-ranked Marquette and 10th-ranked Madison La Follette will compete. Two of the top 10 teams in Division 2 will participate, including top-ranked Wisconsin Lutheran, third-ranked Pius XI Catholic and seventh-ranked Onalaska. Among Division 3 schools, second-ranked Brillion, fifth-ranked Xavier and 10th-ranked Saint Thomas More will participate. In Division 4, third-ranked Saint Mary Catholic and fourth-ranked Cuba City will take part. And in Division 5, third-ranked Heirtage Christian, fourth-ranked Newman Catholic and fifth-ranked Columbus Catholic will play.

4. Jeweled Juniors – Twelve of the top 20 players in the current WisSports.net Player Rankings for the class of 2024 will participate in the Rick Majerus WBY Shootout. The majority of the 12 already own scholarship offers from NCAA Division I or II programs. That list includes top-ranked Kon Knueppel of Wisconsin Lutheran, third-ranked Will Hornseth of De Pere, fourth-ranked Sekou Konneh of Saint Thomas More, fifth-ranked Jack Daugherty of Brookfield Central, seventh-ranked Amari McCottry of Saint Thomas More, eighth-ranked Steven Clark of Oshkosh North, ninth-ranked Michael McNabb Jr. of Grafton, 11th-ranked Nolan Minessale of Marquette, 12th-ranked Jaquan Johnson of Pius XI Catholic, 13th-ranked Evan Anderson of Onalaska, 18th-ranked Cole Hansen of Wauwatosa West and 19th-ranked Jonathan O'Neill of Kaukauna.

5. Sensational Sophomores – Five of the top six players in the WisSports.net Player Rankings for the class of 2025 are scheduled to take part in the WBY Shootout. The list of talented young players includes second-ranked Kai Rogers of Wauwatosa West, third-ranked Xzavion Mitchell of Oshkosh North, fourth-ranked TJ Stuttley of Onalaska, fifth-ranked Zach Kinziger of De Pere and sixth-ranked Aaron Womack of Dominican.

Luke Lemoine, 6-5, Sr., F, Marshfield (Uncommitted) -- One of the top players in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, Lemoine leads a balanced Marshfield attack by averaging 11.5 ppg and 4.6 rpg.

Arhman Lewis, 6-0, Sr., G, Madison La Follette (Augustana, SD) -- Lewis committed to NCAA Division II Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, last summer and is having a strong senior season for La Follette. The high energy and extremely competitive backcourt performer is averaging 23.3 ppg.

Jeremy Lorenz, 6-8, Sr., F, Brillion (Wofford) -- Ranked No. 3 among class of 2023 prospects in the state by WisSports.net, Lorenz has committed to NCAA Division I Wofford. His ability to play near the hoop or out on the perimeter are major assets for a very good Brillion squad. Lorenz leads the undefeated Lions in scoring (21.8 ppg) and rebounding (12.1 rpg).

Max Lucey, 6-5, Sr., G, Cuba City (Uncommitted) -- The Cubans' top scoring threat and a four-year varsity performer for coach Jerry Petitgoue, Lucey is averaging 22.2 points and 8.6 rebounds. He is one of the better uncommitted seniors in Wisconsin.

Tre Miller, 6-0, Sr., PG, Janesville Parker (Uncommitted) -- A two-year starter for Janesville Parker, Miller is one of the top backcourt performers in the Big Eight Conference thanks to his ability to dictate tempo with the ball in his hands. He went off for 37 points in a victory over Verona and leads the Vikings in scoring at 23.0 ppg.

Simeon Murchison, 6-9, Sr., F, Milwaukee Hamilton (Uncommitted) -- Murchison played as a sophomore at Milwaukee Bay View and then sat out last season after transferring to Hamilton. He is a developing post prospect who is averaging 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds. Milwaukee has extended an offer.

Mason Prey, 6-3, Sr., G, Newman Catholic (Uncommitted) -- After missing two games with an injury, Prey returned to the Newman Catholic lineup and played a major role in the Cardinals' 73-69 overtime victory over previously undefeated Marathon. He scored 16 points, grabbed five rebounds and handed out five assists in the game, and is averaging 23.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists.

Cole Uhlenbrauck, 6-5, Sr., G, Saint Mary Catholic (St. Norbert) -- Uhlenbrauck recently committed to NCAA Division III St. Nobert and is one of the elite players in the Big East Conference. His shooting range is a big asset for the undefeated Zephyrs as he regularly knocks down triples. Through seven games, Uhlenbrauck has made 30 of 68 tries from deep for 44 percent.

Prentice Young, 6-4, Sr., G, Wisconsin Lutheran (Uncommitted) -- Another of the state's top unsigned seniors, Young missed a good chunk of last season with an injury.
