Your official guide to the eighth annual Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Shootout, scheduled for December 26-27-28 at Concordia University in Mequon:
 
Five Things To Watch …
 
1. Duane Wilson vs. Bronson Koenig – In a matchup featuring two outstanding point guards, Marquette recruit Duane Wilson of Dominican and Wisconsin recruit Bronson Koenig of Aquinas square off at 5:30 p.m. on December 26. Wilson is a dynamic scorer and tremendous athlete who attacks the basket, blocks shots and rains down three-point shots, while Koenig is a superb passer, defender and athlete who can also put up points in a hurry. Dominican won the WIAA Division 4 state title last season while Aquinas won the Division 3 crown two years ago. Watching these two outstanding competitors go at one another should be a treat for fans of basketball in this state.   
 
2. Germantown vs. Arrowhead – The top-ranked Division 1 team in Wisconsin in the most recent WisSports.net Coaches Poll, Germantown has won 35 games in a row dating back to last year’s club that went 28-0 and won the Division 1 state title. Germantown is led by Indiana recruit Luke Fischer, a 7-foot-0 center who is averaging 20.7 points per game. Juniors Jake Showalter (16.7 ppg), LaMonte Bearden (10.2 ppg) and Evan Wesenberg (9.5 ppg) provide further firepower for a Germantown squad averaging 84.8 ppg with two games over the 100-point mark. Conversely, Arrowhead is winning primarily with its defense. Leaders in the Classic Eight Conference, Arrowhead is 7-0 behind an outstanding defense that surrenders just 42.8 ppg. Seniors Kyle Keranan (8.6 ppg), Kenny Finco (8.4 ppg) and Dominic Todarello (8.0 ppg) lead the way for coach Craig Haase, who led Arrowhead to the Division 1 state title in 2010. Germantown and Arrowhead are slated to square off against each other at 8:30 p.m. on December 27.   

3. East Troy vs. Little Chute – Two of the premier Division 3 teams in Wisconsin collide when Little Chute and East Troy meet at 2:30 p.m. on December 27. Little Chute is 7-0 and ranked No. 1 in D3 in the WisSports.net/WBCA poll behind a pair of future Green Bay players in senior forwards Turner Botz (16.1 ppg) and Kenneth Lowe (12.8 ppg). Little Chute returns five starters from a year ago when it won 23 games and is the overwhelming favorite to repeat as Eastern Valley Conference champions. East Troy is 5-0 with a huge game Saturday against Germantown at the Al McGuire Center. The Trojans boast three NCAA Division I players in seniors Nathan Dodge (Army), Brett Prahl (Milwaukee) and Alex Prahl (Milwaukee). These two teams could very well meet again in the WIAA D3 state title game at the Kohl Center on March 9.      
 
4. Matt Thomas – Few players in Wisconsin over the last decade or so are more enjoyable to watch than Thomas, the 6-4 senior wing guard from Onalaska. Whether he’s knocking down three-point shots with alarming regularity or probing a defense with his ability to get around defenders off the dribble, Thomas is poetry in motion on the basketball court. Thomas is currently averaging a robust 30.8 ppg for the defending WIAA Division 2 state champions. The future Iowa State Cyclone is ranked No. 58 in the nation by both Scout.com and Rivals.com.
 
5. Diamond Stone – Though Stone is off to a bit of an uneven start to the season, he remains one of the truly elite prospects in Wisconsin. The 6-9 post player is currently ranked No. 1 nationally in 2015 by Scout.com because of his combination of size, strength, skill and athleticism. He can dominate at times on both ends of the court, as evidenced by his unheard of 14 blocked shots in a D4 state semifinal victory over Colfax a year ago.
 
15 Players To Watch
 
Turner Botz, 6-6, Sr., Little Chute – A lunch-pail type of player who competes at an exceptionally high level in every game, Botz is a good three-point shooter who can also go inside and dominate in the paint. College Plans … Committed to Green Bay.

Deonte Burton, 6-5, Sr., Milwaukee Vincent – A jack-of-all-trades basketball player who does whatever it takes for his teams to win, Burton is a physically advanced competitor capable of getting a triple double in points, rebounds and assists each time he steps onto the court. Jerrelle Deberry, 6-4, Jr., Destiny – One of the more prolific scorers in Wisconsin, Deberry can go off for 30-plus points against any opponent. Case in point, Deberry poured in 39 points in a loss to unbeaten and highly regarded Milwaukee Vincent on December 4. College Plans … undecided.

Nathan Dodge, 6-4, Sr., East Troy – A stellar shooter with outstanding range, Dodge is also an under-rated athlete. He is fun to watch in the open court with his ability to elevate and finish above the rim. College Plans … Committed to Army. 

Luke Fischer, 7-0, Sr., Germantown – An extremely difficult matchup for any opponent because of his height, skill and ability to run the floor, Fischer is a consistent scorer and rebounder who gives coach Steve Showalter a ‘go-to’ player at crunch time. College Plans … Committed to Indiana.

Bennett Koch, 6-10, Sr., Ashwaubenon – Unlike many of his counterparts in the class of 2013, Koch has not received a ton of media attention over the past several years. But there are some who feel the emerging 6-10 forward has as good an upside as any other player in the loaded class. Koch has a soft shooting touch, can run the floor and possesses tremendous length. He is off to a very good senior season for vastly improved Ashwaubenon. College Plans … Committed to Northern Iowa.

Bronson Koenig, 6-3, Sr., Aquinas – A four-year starter at point guard for coach Rick Schneider at Aquinas, Koenig is at his best in the open court where he can push the ball and deliver outstanding passes to his teammates. He is an improved perimeter shooter and a vastly under-rated athlete who figures to blossom at the next level. College Plans … Committed to Wisconsin.

Kenneth Lowe, 6-7, Sr., Little Chute – Lowe is a difficult matchup because of his ability to put the ball on the floor and beat defenders to the basket. He uses his length and superior physical strength to often overmatch his opponents and once at the rim, he often finishes with authority. College Plans … Committed to Green Bay.

Brett Prahl, 6-9, Sr., East Troy – An emerging post player who stays within himself while scoring in the paint, rebounding and blocking shots. He has improved his ability to step out and make mid-range jump shots over the past 12 months. College Plans … Committed to Milwaukee.

T.J. Schlundt, 6-4, Jr., Oconomowoc – Off to a bit of a slow start for a young and inexperienced Oconomowoc squad, Schlundt owns scholarship offers from both Green Bay and Milwaukee largely because of his ability to stretch a defense with his stellar long-range shooting skill. Jake Showalter, 6-3, Jr., Germantown – The younger brother of Wisconsin freshman point guard Zak Showalter, Jake Showalter is a deadly long-range shooter who is currently averaging 16.7 ppg for the unbeaten Warhawks. Like his older brother and father, Steve Showalter, Jake competes with high energy and leaves everything out on the court. College Plans … undecided.

Diamond Stone, 6-9, Soph., Dominican – Stone is averaging 18.2 ppg and 13.5 rpg for first-year Dominican coach Derek Berger. He’ll need to be on the top of his game in order for the Knights to get past Aquinas and Whitefish Bay in the WBY Shootout. College Plans … undecided.

Matt Thomas, 6-4, Onalaska – The transformation of Thomas’ physical stature from his freshman year to his senior year is nothing short of phenomenal. Once a scrawny ninth grader, Thomas is now a muscular senior poised to dominate every game he plays. College Plans … Committed to Iowa State. 

Scotty Tyler, 6-7, Sr., Grafton – Can make shots from beyond the three-point arc and find open teammates with his excellent passing skills. Tyler had an offer from Penn State of the Big Ten and strong interest from Boston College of the Atlantic Coast Conference before selecting Idaho State. College Plans … Committed to Idaho State. 

Duane Wilson, 6-3, Sr. Dominican – As explosive as they come with the ball in his hands, Wilson is virtually impossible to keep out of the lane and his ability to elevate on his jump shot makes his doubly difficult to defend. College Plans … Committed to Marquette.

There will be no pre-sale tickets. All tickets for the WBY Shootout will be sold at the door. The Buuck Fieldhouse can accommodate around 2,000 fans so plan to arrive early to make sure you can purchase a ticket.

Parking for the WBY Shootout is free.

Ticket prices are $5 for students and senior citizens and $8 for adults. The tickets are good for the entire day.
