Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook

The Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Exposure Camp concluded Tuesday at Viterbo University in La Crosse.

Following are some end-of-the-camp news and notes.

Players at the WBY Camp were divided into 12 different teams. Following are the MVPs for each of the teams at camp as selected by the camp coaches:

Carson Biedrzycki, 6-4, WF, Sr., Burlington
One of the most athletic and versatile players among the 120 prospects in camp … Finished above the rim in transition, took defenders off the bounce in the half court and also knocked down some perimeter jump shots … High skill level and also a very strong student (3.8 gpa) … Earned second-team all-league honors in the Southern Lakes Conference as a junior.

Joe Childs, 6-4, WF, Sr., North Crawford
An emerging wing prospect who showed the ability to score in a variety of ways … A three-year starter for coach Gary Hines who has grown several inches over the past couple of seasons … Led North Crawford to 21 victories by averaging 14.5 ppg as a junior, scoring a career-high 37 points in a victory over La Farge.

Trevor Entwisle, 5-9, PG, Soph., Neenah
A fearless point guard who possesses outstanding stop-and-go ability and the penchant for taking and making the big shot … Figures to be a mainstay in the Neenah program over the next three seasons … Vocal leader who competed with tireless energy on both ends of the court … Great passion for the game.

Brad Freeborn, 6-6, WG/WF, Sr., River Falls
An athletic, skilled wing prospect who can also play some point guard because of his considerable ball-handling and passing skills … A good perimeter shooter who can also score off the dribble and from the free-throw line … Good rebounder on both ends and a guy who plays every possession … A second-team all-league pick in the Big Rivers Conference as a junior.

Ryan McBride, 6-1, PG, Sr., Brookfield East
Scrappy, hard-nosed competitor who won the three-point shooting contest, the skills competition and played on the winning three-on-three team … Doesn’t back down from any opponent on defense and makes shots at a high rate on offense … Isn’t the biggest or strongest player on the court, but he often makes the most impact because of his competitiveness and ability to excel on both sides of the ball … Honorable mention all-league choice in Greater Metro Conference as a junior.

Sam Murphy, 6-4, PG/WG, Sr., Royall
Outstanding combination of size, skill and unselfishness … Knocked down three-point shots and scored in the lane on a consistent level … Hit the boards on both ends of the court and played defense with a purpose … Length, height and ball handling ability make him a difficult matchups on the perimeter for opponents … Named first-team all-league in Scenic Bluffs Conference as a junior.

Aaron Retzlaff, 6-4, WF, Sr., Randolph
A physically dominating player who competes with an edge … Can score around the basket with his excellent footwork and strong jumping ability or step outside and make mid-range jump shots … Took defenders off the dribble and bulled his way to the basket to either finish or draw a foul … Named Most Valuable Player of the Central Division of the Trailways Conference as a junior.

Ty Sabin, 6-1, PG, Sr., Catholic Memorial
One of the most pleasant surprises of the camp … Played on the championship three-on-three squad and the title-winning Clippers squad … Physically tough and highly skilled point guard who can get into the heart of a defense and create contact while also finding open teammates … Made jump shots and finished through contact in the lane … A very strong point-guard prospect who earned honorable mention all-league laurels in the Classic Eight Conference as a junior.

Zach Schradle, 6-5, WF, Sr., Clayton
One of the most complete and consistent performers in camp … Scored off the dribble, in the post and from the perimeter … Rebounded with high energy on both ends of the court on all three days of camp … Three-year varsity performer for a very strong program at Clayton … Voted first-team all-league in the Central Division of the Lakeland Conference as a junior.

Jacob Servais, 6-6, C, Sr., West Salem
A true post prospect who used his size, strength and determination to score in the post … Outstanding rebounder who loves contact … Plays with his back-to-the-basket, but can also step outside and make mid-range jumpers … Gets to the foul line on a consistent basis … An honorable mention all-league pick in the Coulee Conference as a junior who has taken great strides in his overall game over the past couple of months.

Collin Seubert, 6-1, PG/WG, Sr., Marathon
Rock-solid in virtually every aspect of the game … Displayed outstanding leadership skills throughout the camp … Excellent teammate who is a willing defender while also being able to pass, shoot and dribble … A key player off the bench two years ago on Marathon’s WIAA Division 4 state championship team … Earned first-team all-league honors in the Southern Division of the Marawood Conference as a junior.

Caden Untiedt, 6-4, WG, Sr., Edgar
Smooth wing-guard prospect who can make long-distance shots with the best of them … Has improved his ability to get around defenders off the dribble and is eager to defend on most possessions … Has a quick release on his high-arcing jump shot, making it difficult for defenders to keep him out of the scorebook … With increased strength and aggressiveness, he figures to emerge as an outstanding collegiate prospect … Named first-team all-league in Southern Division of the Marawood Conference as a junior.

Additional players cited by team coaches who consistently played well included:

Alec Adsit, 6-4, WG, Sr., Richland Center – A bit streaky from the perimeter, Adsit did show the ability to get around defenders and score in the lane. Though his shots weren’t falling at a high rate, his ability to make three-point bombs is one of his strongest assets.

Nick Crowley, 6-4, F, Sr., Dodgeville – One of the more consistent performers at camp, Crowley played within himself and made plays on both ends of the court.

Erik Engelstad, 6-4, WF, Sr., Cambridge – Rugged forward who loved contact in the lane and finished above bigger opponents with his aggressiveness.

Marcus Gabriel, 6-2, PG/WG, Wausau Newman – Definitely a player to keep an eye on, Gabriel can emerge as a lock-down defender over the next 12 months because of his length, athleticism and size.

Joel Heesch, 6-3, PG/WG, Sr., Mauston – A high-scoring combination guard who is hearing from NCAA Division II schools because of his athleticism and ability to put the ball in the basket.

Taylor Jansen, 6-4, WG, Sr., Columbus – Strong shooter with excellent length and a high basketball I.Q.

Dylan Jardine, 6-6, C, Sr., Northwestern – A hard-working post player who ran the floor, finished in transition and battled for every rebound and loose ball.

Troy Malmanger, 5-10, PG, Sr., Janesville Craig – Played well all three days at camp and did an excellent job of running the show for his team.

Alex Medenwaldt, 5-10, PG/WG, Jr., Oak Creek -- A difficult player to defend because of his constant motion and aggressive nature, Medenwaldt was a consistent scorer throughout camp.

Luke Murphy, 6-2, WG, Jr., River Falls – Without a doubt one of the most impressive players in camp, Murphy’s aggressive nature and ability to finish through contact were evident all three days of camp.

Mike Novak, 6-6, PF, Sr., Brookfield East – A blue-collar frontline prospect who can put the ball on the floor and score over defenders. Loves to compete and play the game and is a tremendous teammate.

Brett O’Sullivan, 6-3, F, Jr., Stevens Point Pacelli – A high-energy and physical forward who had an extremely effective jump-hook shot in the lane.

Mitchell Oleson, 6-5, PF, Jr., Kettle Moraine – Brings his lunch pail to the gym and works hard on each and every possession. Oleson has an impressive blend of skill, strength and energy.

Mitchell Reinthaler, 6-4, F, Jr., Rhinelander – High-effort player who ran the court, defended and scored at the rim in transition.

Isaiah Shell, 6-0, PG/WG, Jr., Albany – An offensive machine who scored from the perimeter, off the dribble and from the foul line while taking good shots and being a willing passer, Shell put forth a strong overall performance throughout camp.

Clay Stevens, 6-4, WG, Sr., Racine Lutheran – Known primarily for his long-distance shooting ability, Stevens used his strength and toughness to get to the basket and finish over defenders.

Josh Watton, 6-2, WG, Sr., McDonell Central – Though his three-point shot wasn’t falling, Watton remained an impressive performer because of his combination of size, skill and athleticism.

Josh Weix, 6-3, WG, Jr., Eau Claire North – A left-handed perimeter shooter who can also rebound and score around the basket.

Sophomores to watch from camp included:

Carter Belling, 6-0, PG, Soph., Kaukauna – Super talented lead-guard prospect who was not intimidated by bigger and older defenders. Made shots, played defense and found open teammates with his considerable passing skills.

Kyle Geiger, 6-2, WG, Soph., Columbus – Deadly perimeter shooter who can get on an absolute roll from downtown.

Kyle Monroe, 6-3, WG/WF, Soph., Ashwaubenon – Averaged 10.3 ppg as a freshman in a very strong league and proved he is one of the elite class of 2015 prospects in Wisconsin with his strong showing at the WBY Camp.

Jackson Riley, 6-3, F, Soph., Monona Grove – A physical, hard-working forward who competed for every rebound and loose ball while also scoring in the post.

Malik Robinson, 6-1, PG/WG, Soph., Sun Prairie – Extremely difficult to keep out of the lane because of his quickness and aggressive nature.

Brando Vasquez, 5-10, PG, Soph., Waupaca – A quick, skilled point-guard who zoomed past defenders and found his way to the basket on a consistent basis.

Ben Widdes, 5-11, PG, Soph., Rice Lake – Another surprise performer who impressed coaches throughout camp with his ball handling, passing and shooting skills.

Baily Williams, 6-0, PG, Soph., West Salem – Highly skilled lead guard who moves well on the court and is able to find the bottom of the basket in a variety of ways.

The three-on-three tournament was held at camp on Tuesday and the team of Ryan McBride of Brookfield East, Ty Sabin of Catholic Memorial, Mike Novak of Brookfield East, Nic Pierick of Highland and Mark Gryszkiewicz of Sussex Hamilton won the championship.

The three-point shooting contest was won by senior Ryan McBride of Brookfield East.
