Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook

The first of two Wisconsin Basketball Yearbook Exposure Camps to be held this month at Viterbo University in La Crosse ended on June 9. Following are some end-of-the-camp news and notes.

Players at the WBY Camp were divided into eight different teams. Following are the MVPs as selected by the camp coaches for each of the eight teams at camp:

Austin Armga, 6-3, PG/WG, Sr., Waupun
Very difficult to keep out of the lane because of size, strength and skill … Outstanding finisher around the basket … Can make mid-range jump shots and three-point shots as well … Physically strong and determined combination guard who earned Player of the Year honors in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference as a junior while leading the state in scoring at 25.95 points per contest for a Waupun squad that went 20-2.

Derek Hasanoglu, 6-4, WF, Jr., Mukwonago
Might have been the toughest player in camp to defend because of incredibly quick first step and tremendous athleticism … Soars to the rim and often finishes with a rim-rattling dunk … Hits the glass and competes on both ends of the court … Earned second-team all-league honors in the Classic Eight Conference as a sophomore.

Micah Parlow, 6-6, PF, Sr., Fox Valley Lutheran
A relentless interior player who uses quickness, strength and size to score in the lane … Can also pop out and make perimeter shots … Gets to the foul line and converts … Has had a very productive spring after battling a lingering illness during the 2008-09 high school season.

Tyler Pauley, 5-11, WG, Sr., Osceola
Played perhaps the strongest on-the-ball defense of any player in camp … Absolutely gave 100 percent maximum effort throughout the camp, especially on the defensive end of the court … Can make perimeter jump shots or get to the basket … Earned first-team all-league honors in the Middle Border Conference as a junior … Plays bigger than his 5-11 size because of his heart and determination.

Pueschner, 5-6, PG, Jr., Wausau Newman Catholic
One of the smallest players in the state in terms of stature, but his play was big throughout camp … Made three-point shots on a regular basis … Can get into the lane and find open teammates … Outstanding ball handling ability and basketball I.Q. … Transferred to Newman Catholic after previously attending Wausau East.

Jake Schalow, 6-4, WG, Sr., Kaukauna
One of the top long-distance shooters in the state … Can really fill it up from downtown … Won the three-point shooting contest at camp … Outstanding free-throw shooter as well … Working hard to improve lateral quickness and ability to get by defenders off the dribble … Plays with a high basketball I.Q. on both ends of the floor … Received honorable mention all-league honors in Fox Valley Association as junior.

Brandon Tyler, 6-2, WG, Soph., Omro
One of the top prospects in the state in the class of 2012 … Can make long-distance shots or put the ball on the floor and get to the basket … Uses length, quickness and athleticism on both ends of the court … An excellent teammate who communicates on the floor and shares the basketball … Averaged just over eight points per contest on the varsity squad at Omro as a freshman.

Dylan Wurtz, 6-3, PG/WG, Sr., Kimberly
A streaky perimeter shooter who can make shots from virtually any spot on the court … Can get to the basket and finish … Not afraid to take the big shot at the end of the game … Has added weight and strength and appears to be emerging as a solid collegiate prospect … Received honorable mention all-league recognition as a junior in the Fox Valley Association.
